Raku is a Japanese firing technique that produced tea bowls for the tea ceremonies held in Japan for many centuries. It was popularised by Bernard Leach who visted Japan in the 1930's.
Today many ceramists produce artwork incoporating this firing technique. The work is fired between 700 and 900 degrees. Which means the work is not suitable for food use, as it still porous.
